In response to Bob Ray Sanders' Feb. 26 column, "Republicans must embrace immigration reform": Hispanics will not vote for Republicans to get a path to citizenship or some other form of legalization. They already get that from the Democrats.

People vote for the party they feel will take the country in the direction they want. The Democrats offer more to most Hispanic voters. Therefore, a greater Hispanic population means more votes for Democrats.

Republicans need to follow their principles to be elected. Some Hispanics like these principles enough to vote for them. Illegal immigrants take jobs and push down wages for all legal residents, including Hispanics.

By stopping the flow of these cheap new workers, the wages and job prospects of Hispanics living here legally will increase.

Wealthier Hispanics may decide they like the principles of the Republican Party.
