The UT Arlington women’s basketball team will face New Mexico State in what could be a preview of a first-round game between the two in the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

Heading into Saturday night’s game, the Mavericks are ninth and the Aggies are eighth in the WAC standings. If the Mavericks win, the two will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Las Vegas.

If the Mavericks lose and Texas State beats San Jose State, then UTA will be the 10th seed in the tournament.

The Mavericks won the first meeting 62-59 and held the Aggies to 26 percent shooting.

“They like to play fast and they’re going to take a lot of quick shots, and they can shoot the ball from the 3,” UTA interim coach Karen Blair said.

The Mavericks, who beat Denver 66-55 on Thursday night, haven’t won back-to-back games this season.
