State roundup: Dallas Kimball pulls away late to trip San Antonio Brennan

Senior guard Keith Frazier scored 18 points and two-time defending Class 4A champion Dallas Kimball pulled away late from San Antonio Brennan for a 64-52 victory Thursday night in the state semifinals in Austin.

Gabe Lilly added 18 points and Trent Brinkley scored 12 for Kimball (23-9), which is trying to become the first team to win three consecutive official 4A state championships since Houston Wheatley in 1968-1970.

Dallas South Oak Cliff won four straight titles from 2005-2008 but was later forced to forfeit two of those championships, which are no longer recognized by the University Interscholastic League.

John Azzinaro scored 25 points for Brennan (39-3), which came in to its first state tournament as the No. 1 team in 4A.

Class 3A

• Houston Yates 81, Brookshire Royal 70: Joseph Anderson scored 18 points and Houston Yates used a big run to open the third quarter in the Class 3A semifinals.

Anderson led four Yates players scoring in double figures. Darrion Martin scored 17 points and freshman Lorenzo Phillips scored 17 behind five 3-pointers.

Yates (32-4), the top-ranked team in 3A, also forced 31 Royal turnovers, converting them into 30 points.

Wesley Wilson scored 19 points and De’Shaven Flowers had 17 points and 14 rebounds for Royal (29-10).

• Dallas Madison 92, Abilene Wylie 55: Admon Gilder scored 25 points and Dallas Madison built a 45-point lead in cruising past Abilene Wylie in the Class 3A semifinals.

Gilder was 9 of 11 shooting with seven 3-pointers for Madison (31-5), which shot 61 percent from the field and outscored Wylie 50-14 in the paint.

Mike Lopez scored 18 points for Wylie (34-5).

Class A, Division I

• Mumford 86, San Augustine 63: LaKendric Hyson and Aubrie King each scored 20 points and Mumford advanced to its second straight state championship game by coasting past San Augustine in the semifinals.

Four players scored in double figures for Mumford (39-0), which started the game on a 22-3 run. Josh Sustaita scored 19 points and hit five 3-pointers. Dion Mack added 14 points.

Mumford will face Dallas Triple A Academy (27-5) in the Class A state title game.

Bobby Tanner led San Augustine (23-7) with 25 points and nine rebounds.

• Dallas Triple A Academy 90, El Paso Harmony Science 50: Jeremiah Johnson scored 37 points, leading Dallas Triple A Academy to an easy victory over El Paso Harmony Science in the semifinals.
