A fire caused heavy damage to a north Arlington apartment building early Thursday and displaced nine families, authorities said Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lodge at Legacy Park Apartments in the 2500 block of River Hills Court in Arlington.

Heavy smoke was visible when firefighters arrived on the scene, said Arlington fire Lt. Kevin Seeton on Thursday.

Cause of the fire was under investigation.

An apartment official said that the families would be housed at other apartments at the complex.
