A Grand Prairie man was killed Wednesday night when he walked onto Interstate 20 in Arlington after he exited a car, Arlington police said Thursday.

Authorities were to continue to interview the driver of the car on Thursday to determine why his passenger walked onto the highway.

The victim was identified as David Kelley, 26, who died in the emergency room at an Arlington hospital shortly after he was hit.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on the interstate between Texas 360 and New York Avenue in Arlington.

A car had stopped on the highway when Kelley, who was a passenger, got out and stepped onto the highway, Arlington police said.

A truck, which was westbound on the interstate, hit the Grand Prairie man and the driver stopped.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than an hour as authorities investigated the incident.
