A couple of years ago, I sent a letter to the Star-Telegram chastising the citizens of Texas for not celebrating our great heritage.

I proposed that we fly our Texas flags from March 6 (fall of the Alamo) until April 21 (victory at San Jacinto) each year. I requested the Star-Telegram take up this cause. Amon Carter would have. Maybe Bud Kennedy?

I am back. It is that time again. Get those flags out.

If you do not take Texas Highways magazine, get a copy of the March issue. There is a great short history of Texas' struggle for freedom and the historic places to visit. Pile the family in the old pickup and follow the historic trails.

At least take the kids to the Alamo, Gonzales, Goliad and the San Jacinto battleground site.
