Carroll hockey scraps it out with Mansfield

The Carroll Varsity Gold hockey team defeated Mansfield on 2-1 last Thursday night in a game that saw no scoring in the first period of play.

Chris Barrett broke through for the Dragons 40 seconds into the second period on an assist from Drew Petty to make it 1-0 Carroll.

With just one second remaining in the period, Jeff Rucci made it 2-0 Dragons on an assist from Griffin McManus.

Mansfield scored a goal in the third period, but Carroll held off the comeback attempt and went on to get the victory.

Mansfield out-shot Carroll 29-21 in the game, and A.J. Smith stopped 28 of 29 shots on goal in the contest that wrapped up the regular season of play.

Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage loses in back-and-forth affair

The Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage Varsity Silver hockey team lost to Keller 5-4 in overtime on Thursday in the season finale.

Following a scoreless first period, it was Keller who drew first blood three minutes into the second period of play to take a 1-0 lead.

Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage came back and tied it 1-1 an unassisted goal from Chris Finn at the 8:30 mark of the period, but trailed 2-1 just over a minute later.

In the 12th minute of play, Dalton Caesar scored on an assist from Corbin Hutchings to make it 2-2 going into the third period of play.

Things looked good for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage early on in the period, as the Varsity Silver team scored twice within the first three minutes of play.

Power-play goals from Ethan Smith and Matthew Cruse made it 4-2 in favor of Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage.

Finn, Caesar and Hutchings all earned assists on the two goals.

Keller scored two unanswered goals of its own before the end of the period, and went on to win in overtime.

Faith Christian has three swimmers named to Academic All-State Team

Juniors Andre Denis and Ashton Farr were both recently named to the TAPPS Academic All-State Swimming Team.

Denis and Farr are both students at Grapevine Faith Christian.

Faith senior Sarah Richardson was also named to the TAPPS Academic All-State Swimming Team on the girls side.
