The Carroll boys soccer team has had a rough go of it for the last week and half, but coach Greg Oglesby said that can be attributed to injuries more than anything else.

The Dragons will take on Northwest on Friday night at home, and Oglesby said that while he would not call it a must-win game, he does believe the Dragons need to get back on track with a victory.

“I don't know that its critical,” Oglesby said. “I know that it would put us in a good position to make the playoffs, which is our ultimate goal. We'd like to be third, second or district champions, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is to get into the playoffs.”

Carroll defeated Northwest 3-1 the first time the two teams played each other, and Oglesby said he anticipates a pretty similar game on Friday.

“I think it will be about the same as the first time we played them,” Oglesby said. “Our stadiums are about the same size, and I don't think they'll do much different than what they've been doing.

“They've got a good solid side, but if we play well, I think we should take care of business. If we don't, they've got a good chance to beat us.”

Carroll lost to Richland 2-0 on Friday night, and Oglesby said he has to give credit where credit is due.

“The team played OK, but we are probably capable of playing better,” Oglesby said. “But I have to give Richland credit. They played very well. It was one of the better games I have seen them play.”

Carroll has gone 0-1-2 in its last three games, but Oglesby said there is really no cause for concern at this point in the season.

“The team's playing well, we just have to get some personnel back,” he said. “We have some injuries, and I think that when we get some of those kids back, we'll be just fine.

“We get a couple of them back this week, and I think it is really going to help us out.”

Oglesby said another positive thing for his team is that morale has not suffered at all so far.

“We've got good kids that are working hard,” Oglesby said. “We have been playing well and are going to continue to do so. We'll just get a lot better when we get some of our players back.

“We have a very good district with a lot of good teams, and when you lose some of your stronger players, that does affect you a little bit.”
