Keller hockey finishes on winning note

Chris Shutz led Keller’s hockey team as they closed out a trying season by getting past Grapevine/Colleyville in a 5-4 overtime win last Thursday night.

After a scoreless first period, Chris Shutz got Keller on the board with the first of four goals with an assist from Connor Morrison.

Shutz put Keller back ahead with a goal following a Grapevine/Colleyville response. Bryant Kilkenny and Sterling Smith were credited with the assist.

Again, Grapevine/Colleyville answered, tying the score before going into the third period and extended their lead with two goals early in the final frame.

Morrison brought Keller back to within a goal off an assist from Addison Harper.

Then it was Shutz scoring the tying goal with just a few minutes in regulation. Morrison and Taylor Morgan had the assists.

It was Shutz who put the winning goal in the net just over three minutes into the overtime period to win the game for Keller.

Keller closes the season at 5-15 with two overtime losses.

Denton County hockey bows to league-leader

The Denton County hockey team finished a strong campaign by finishing 10-10 with two overtime losses when they finished the season in a 7-0 loss to Plano West last Thursday.

Plano West finished the regular season as the top team in the Varsity East division at 21-1.

Cameron Mixon finished as the team’s leading scorer, with 19 goals and 7 assists for Denton County.

Devin Howard finished with 10 goals and seven assists for the team.

Flag football, cheerleading registration still open

Upward flag football and cheerleading is still taking registration for children in grades 4-6.

Upward Sports is a sports experience for children that emphasizes healthy competition, sportsmanship, skill building and fun versus the “win at all costs” mentality associated with many sports leagues, the Upward website says.

More information about the league and registration information can be found at: www.acfsportsoutreach.com. The league plays its games on the athletic fields on the campus of Alliance Community Fellowship, 2185 Golden Heights Road, Fort Worth.

Trophy Club-Roanoke Bobcat Youth football and cheerleader registration open soon

The Fall 2013 football and cheerleading registration is preparing for the fall season.

Cheerleading registration is available on Saturday, March 23 and April 6 at the Roanoke Recreation Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $335 and includes the uniform, with installment payments available.

Registration for football begins Saturday, April 13 at Independence Park East, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will also be open the same times on April 27 and May 11. Cost is $250, with the fee going up to $265 after May 11.
