Legacy boys knocked out of postseason

Legacy’s playoff run ended in the strangest of games last week, losing to McKinney North in their Class 4A regional quarterfinal 23-21.

Legacy only scored 10 points in the second and third quarters combined. In the fourth quarter, a basket from North’s Jola Otubu while getting fouled would be the only points scored in the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams held the ball for minutes at a time, resulting in few possessions. The game went to overtime, where North scored the only two points of the period on two free throws with about five seconds left.

Legacy didn’t score for the entire fourth quarter and overtime periods.

The game ended a dream season for Legacy. After finishing out of the playoffs with only nine last season, the Broncos won 28 games and finished second in District 15-4A with a 12-2 record.

Legacy also beat Arlington Seguin during district play, one of the top ranked teams in 4A. The Broncos did it with a defense that was one of the tops in the area, holding teams to under 50 points per game.

Next year will be tough for Legacy, with senior co-captains Marchie Murdock and Brett Potter graduating.
