Lyles’ no-hitter leads UTA to consolation title

Teri Lyles threw her first career no-hitter and scored twice, leading UT Arlington to a 3-0 victory over Creighton and the consolation title at the UTA Softball Classic on Sunday.

Lyles, a senior from Keller, struck out seven and walked three.

She had a double and scored two runs. Taylor Zink and Britnea Barilli had run-scoring singles for the Mavericks (8-7).

“I'm very proud of Teri,” coach Kristie Fox said. “We came out with a better game plan against Creighton today and she executed it to perfection. I couldn’t be prouder of her, especially with her leadership. She really is taking the team under her wing.”

Wesleyan women fall

Wiley College beat Texas Wesleyan 91-70 in the semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference women’s tournament in Waxahachie on Saturday night.

The Rams finish their season at 21-10.

“The girls played hard and showed the heart and determination that was key to their 21 win season,” Wesleyan coach Bill Franey. “This was a fun group and I would have liked the season to last much longer.”

TCU equestrian

TCU fell to No. 2 Auburn 9-8 in Springtown. The Horned Frogs dominated Kansas State 14-6 on Saturday.
