JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Third baseman Jantzen Witte drove in four runs on three hits as TCU scored early and often for its first series win of the season, beating Jacksonville 13-0 on Sunday.
TCU improved to 3-7 on the season after a 0-6 start.Freshman left-hander Alex Young picked up his first career win.Young (1-1) held the Dolphins scoreless in a predetermined four-inning limit, allowing three hits and walking one.Trey Teakell, Travis Evans, Tejay Antone, Justin Scharf and Andrew Mitchell finished the shutout with a scoreless inning each.Leading 2-0 after the first inning, the Frogs had their first seven batters reach base to open the second inning and six scored before an out was made. Center fielder Cody Jones’ three-run home run to right center was the big blow, making the score 6-0.Witte’s two-run home run to straightaway center made it 8-0.In the third, Witte lined a single to center for a 9-0 lead.TCU boosted the margin to 13-0 in the fourth inning, when the Frogs sent 10 men to the plate. Shortstop Keaton Jones singled in two runs, and Witte’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly and second baseman Derek Odell’s single capped the scoring.The Frogs then emptied their bench over the last five innings.TCU opens a nine-game homestand at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
