A motorist died in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 20 Saturday night and her passenger was critically injured as both were ejected when the vehicle flipped over, Arlington police said Sunday.

The victim, who police say was in her early 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger was flown by helicopter ambulance to a local hospital in Fort Worth.

The wreck occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday in the 5000 block of I-20 between Green Oaks Boulevard and Kelly Elliott Road in Arlington.

The vehicle was westbound on the highway when it veered off, struck a guardrail and flipped over on a grassy embankment, Arlington police said in an email.

Police closed the westbound lanes of the highway for about two hours as authorities investigated.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors in the wreck, police said.

Authorities will try to determine on Sunday where the women were coming from and what caused the driver to lose control.
