Dallas is just four games behind the Rockets in the loss column, and will also host the Rockets on Wednesday night at American Airlines Center. ... Behind 40 points from O.J. Mayo, the Mavs beat the Rockets in Houston 116-109 on Dec. 8. The Mavs also defeated the Rockets in Dallas 105-100 on Jan. 16. ... The Mavs are seventh in the NBA in scoring (101 ppg). But they’re also allowing 102 ppg, which ranks just 27th in the league. About the Rockets: The Rockets have been sitting in the Western Conference’s No. 8 playoff spot for about a month. They are led by All-Star guard James Harden, who averages 26.3 ppg and 5.7 apg. ... Point guard Jeremy Lin isn’t getting the type of buzz he enjoyed last season while playing for the New York Knicks, but he’s averaging 12.6 ppg and 6.2 apg. ... Houston also is getting 14.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg from Chandler Parsons, and 10.4 ppg and 11.7 rpg from Omer Asik. ... The Rockets like to push the ball up the floor at all costs. They are second in the NBA in scoring (106.6 ppg) and fifth in assists (23.4 apg). But the Rockets are extremely vulnerable on defense, where they rank next-to-last in the league with 103.7 points allowed per game.
