The UT Arlington baseball team fell behind early and left seven runners on base in a 7-3 loss to Illinois on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The loss drops UTA (5-4) to 0-2 in the Hilton Invitational.

The Fighting Illini (7-3) took advantage of a shaky outing by UTA starter John Beck (0-2) by scoring two runs in the first two innings. Beck gave up five runs while striking out four in five innings.

Illinois starter Kevin Johnson on the other hand, kept the Mavericks off balance, giving up two unearned runs while striking out six in 6 2/3 innings.

Jake Pinchback, Darien McLemore and Derek Miller each managed a pair of hits for UTA, while Justin and Jordan Parr led Illinois, going a combined 6 of 8 with a home run and five RBI.

UTA will play Illinois at 11 a.m. today and will play Houston Baptist, which beat UTA 7-6 on Friday, at 3 p.m.
