TCU wins silver medal in women’s 200 relay

TCU took a silver medal in the women’s 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.72 at the Big 12 Championships in Austin on Friday.

The TCU women are in third place with 369 points, six behind West Virginia.

The men are third with 496 points, 55 behind the Mountaineers.

Swimming on the 200 free relay team were Sabine Rasch, Katie Scarsella, Mikayla Winkler and Parris Schoppa.

Corey Nix took a bronze in the men’s 100 fly with a 48.85.

Adam Szilagyi set a school record in the 100 with a 47.20. He finished fourth. Cooper Robinson became the third man in TCU history to go below 48 seconds in the 100 back with his fifth-place 47.95 in finals.

“Today was a big day for the Frogs,” TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. “We are six points away from second on the women’s side.”

UTA softball swept

UT Arlington managed only seven hits as it was swept on the first day of the UTA Classic.

The Mavericks (6-6) fell to Tulsa 5-1 in the opener and to Creighton 3-1 in the second game.

Briefly

• California football: Sonny Dykes’ contract was finalized. He will receive $9.7 million over five years.

• Oklahoma football: Jay Boulware has been hired as the tight ends coach. Boulware spent the past four seasons at Auburn.
