ARLINGTON — A slow start and a stalled finish doomed the UT Arlington baseball team in Friday’s 7-6 loss to Houston Baptist at Clay Gould Ballpark.UTA (5-3) trailed Houston Baptist 6-1 in the top of the third. Starting pitcher Andy Scott was touched for three earned runs without recording an out. He was replaced by Zach Thompson, who also struggled, allowing five hits, two walks and three more runs before leaving after three innings.But UTA came back behind three hits apiece from shortstop Ryan Walker and designated hitter Matt Shortall, who added three RBIs. In the ninth, UTA had runners on second and third with none out and trailing by a run but couldn’t take advantage. UTA stranded eight runners on base in the final three innings.“We had our chances,” UTA coach Darin Thomas said.HBU is now 5-4-1.
