In 1997 the Botanical Research Institute of Texas appropriately honored Lady Bird Johnson with BRIT's Award for Excellence in Conservation at its annual dinner at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel.

The inimitable Van Cliburn opened the ceremonies by playing The Star-Spangled Banner and then unexpectedly and spontaneously said he wanted to play something especially for Mrs. Johnson. He played and sang I'm Glad There Is You.

Such an incredibly memorable event between two world-class people could only have happened in Fort Worth, Texas.
