TCU set three more school records, and the men’s and women’s teams are locked in tight races for second place at the Big 12 Championships on Thursday in Austin.

Both teams are in third place, the men 49 points behind West Virginia and the women 36 points behind the Mountaineers.

Ali Bleasdell set a school record in the 200 IM with a 2:01.04, finishing fourth. She made the NCAA ‘B’ cut.

Parris Schoppa became the second TCU swimmer in history to go under 23 seconds in the sprint with a 22.89. She finished fifth and earned an NCAA ‘B’ cut.

The quartet of Ali Polhill, Gabi Korac, Bleasdell and Sabine Rasch set a school record in the 400 medley relay with a 3:44.99. They were fifth.

During the exhibition heats of the 400 medley, Ashley Alspaugh broke her own school record in the 100 back with a leadoff of 55.37.

Cooper Robinson reached the ‘A’ final in the 200 IM with a 1:49.23. Mitch Adshead finished right behind him in fifth with a 1:49.75.

Oklahoma State crash

Investigators found no evidence of mechanical failure to explain why a pilot lost control of a small plane that nosedived into an Arkansas ridge, killing the Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach and three others, according to a federal report.

An examination of the wreckage revealed no instrument failure and no anomalies in the engine or airframe before the Piper PA-28-180 went down near Perryville, Ark., on Nov. 17, 2011, National Transportation Safety Board said in a report.

Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke, 50, and assistant coach Miranda Serna, 36, were killed in the crash, along with the 82-year-old pilot, Olin Branstetter, and Branstetter's 79-year-old wife, Paula. They were flying from Stillwater, Okla., to North Little Rock to scout two prospective high school recruits.

Sumlin’s pay hike

Texas A&M rewarded football coach Kevin Sumlin with a raise of $1.1 million for guiding the Aggies back to national prominence in his first season.

Published reports said that Sumlin’s salary jumps to $3.1 million a year.

Sumlin is under contract through 2017.

He’s eligible for a variety of bonuses, such as $300,000 for advancing to the national championship game and $400,000 for winning the game.
