About the Mavericks: The most challenging season of the Mark Cuban era reached a new low Wednesday in Memphis when the Mavericks blew a 25-point lead (51-26) and lost to the Grizzlies 90-84. ... The Mavericks have lost four of their past seven games, including their past three. The three losses were close — four points to the Lakers, five points to the Bucks and six points to the Grizzlies. ... This is the Mavericks’ first game against point guard Deron Williams, who snubbed Dallas in free agency last summer before he signed with the Nets. ... With their playoff chances dwindling, the Mavericks are averaging 101 ppg and allowing 102.2 ppg.

About the Nets: Now in their first season in Brooklyn, the Nets believe they can take New York away from the Knicks. But they’ve got a long way to go and a huge fan base to build. ... The Nets are 6-5 in their past 11 games and have dropped two of their past three. Both losses came at home to Houston (106-96) and Memphis (76-72). ... Center Brook Lopez leads the Nets with 18.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.16 blocks per game. Joe Johnson averages 17 points, and Andray Blatche is averaging 10 points and 5.4 rebounds. The Nets’ biggest star, The Colony native Deron Williams, averages 17.3 points and 7.7 assists and is shooting only 41.7 percent from the field. ... The Nets are 19th in the NBA in scoring (95.2 ppg), but fifth in points allowed (94.8 ppg). — Dwain Price
