Columnist Galloway to be honored at Bobby Bragan Gala

Longtime Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist and ESPN Radio Talk Show host Randy Galloway will be honored at the 2013 Bobby Bragan Lifetime Achievement Award Gala in November.

The specific date in November will be announced later.

Galloway has been a sports columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram since 1998. Before that, he wrote for the Dallas Morning News for 31 years covering the Texas Rangers the first 10 seasons after the franchise came to Arlington. He was a Dallas Morning News columnist for 16 years before moving to the Star-Telegram. Galloway has also been a sports talk show host in the area since 1986, first with WBAP Radio before joining ESPN Radio’s Dallas affiliate, where he currently is the host of Galloway and Company.

The gala will have a different format this year as members of the media and local athletes will roast the honoree.

Some of the previous winners include Bob Schieffer, Bob Simpson, T. Boone Pickens, Lou Brock, Jim Morris, Willie Mays, Tom Grieve, Maury Wills among others.

“Check the names of those previously honored over the years, and I'm obviously way in over my head. But it was an honor to have known Bobby for nearly 40 years, and a greater honor to call him a friend. I know how much the foundation meant to Bobby, and I know the great work the foundation does in the community,” Galloway said. “Those now involved with the foundation asked me to be honored this year, and with hesitation--I'm absolutely not deserving--I accepted and did so with plenty of humility. But the main thing is to have a big "roast" at the gala that night and raise money for the foundation. I look forward to helping do that.”

The Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation was established in 1991 by former major league baseball player and manager, Bobby Bragan. Since its creation, BBYF has awarded more than $1.4 million in college scholarship in $2,500 increments to more than 600 deserving eighth grade students across the Metroplex.

Bragan died on January 21, 2010.
