DENTON — Alexis Hyder had a double-double to lead the North Texas womens basketball team to a 53-51 win against Arkansas State on Wednesday night at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (11-18, 10-10 Sun Belt) snapped a five-game losing streak at home and has won 10 conference games for the first time since 2001-02. UNT swept the conference series with Arkansas State (15-13, 12-7).Hyder scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to tie the single-season freshman record with her ninth double-double. Hyder scored nine of the Mean Greens final 10 points. The freshman put in back-to-back layups, tying the game for North Texas and then putting it ahead 47-45 with 6:19 left.After ASUs Hanna Qedan hit a 3-pointer to tie the game 48-48 with 3:42 left, Hyder scored in the paint. With a free throw and another basket, Hyder gave North Texas its largest lead 53-48 since the midway point of the first half. The Mean Green held on for the victory.Have more to add? News tip?
