As usual, the government has hold of the wrong end of the stick with all this talk of furloughs for those far down on the totem pole. These hardworking people don't have anything to do with the economic problems of the government.
Instead, let's furlough the employees who can really accomplish something when we citizens hold their feet to the fire. I'm talking about representatives, senators, cabinet officers, department heads and all their top-level aides. Furlough the politicians and remind them they are elected and employed to serve for the best of our country. That does not mean playing political games, saying no and looking forward four years to the next presidential election. But of course, most of these people who are elected or appointed do not see themselves as employees of our republic. What do they see themselves as? Rulers? Actors? Corporate leaders?-- Catherine Clyde, BenbrookHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
