Jacob Andrews won a state championship for Grapevine, while brother Blake Andrews brought home a runner-up medal at the recent state wrestling championships in Austin, which concluded on Saturday.
Jacob, a senior, won the title with a 16-8 decision over Jonathan Lowery of Clear Falls at 170 pounds.Blake, a junior, lost his championship finals match to Matt Meyer of Allen, 5-1.Shootout win for CarrollCarroll hockey stayed within a point of second place with a 5-4 shootout win over Richardson/Rockwall in the Gold league of the Varsity West division.After a scoreless first period, both offenses got going, with Richardson/Rockwall scoring three times in the second period and Carroll managing two goals.Chris McNamara and Aaron Driggs put the puck in the net for the Dragons.After giving up another goal in the third period, Carroll scored twice to tie the game and send it into overtime.Jeff Rucci and Ben Bledsoe did the scoring down the stretch to even the score in regulation.Colin Whitt added a shootout goal while AJ Smith kept the Richardson/Rockwall attempts out the net to seal the win.Carroll has just two regular season games remaining, starting with division-leading Jesuit this Thursday at 8:15 pm at Farmer’s Branch, Miller ice.Grapevine/Colleyville hockey pick up 8-2 winThey gave up the first goal of the game, but the Grapevine/Colleyville hockey team never looked back after tying the game late in the first period en route to an 8-2 win over Garland/Bishop Lynch last Thursday night.After Chris Finn scored to even the score in the first period, Trey McMillen scored for Grapevine/Colleyville early in the second on to have Garland/Bishop Lynch come back to tie it at 2-2.But Ethan Smith and McMillen would stretch the lead and it was padded with addition goals by Spencer Stuckeman, Dalton Caesar, Landon Huber and Alex Arellano.James Myers was in net for Grapevine/Colleyville, stopping 21 of 23 shots.Grapevine/Colleyville winds up their season with Midlothian this Thursday and finishing with Keller the following Thursday.Colleyville Covenant moves to state quarterfinalsThe Colleyville Covenant boys basketball team will play in the TAPPS state quarterfinals after wins over McKinney Christian (62-18) and Red Oak Avilla (84-38).The Cougars will take on Amarillo San Jacinto at a day and time to be announced.Have more to add?
