Keller City Council approved a Dallas firm for engineering services for a potential traffic signal at the Rufe Snow Drive and Johnson Road intersection.

Lee Engineering L.L.C. will prepare design plans, specifications and a cost estimate for the traffic signal and widening of Rufe Snow Drive south of Johnson Road. The engineering firm has provided services in the past to the city of Keller on similar projects including Bourland and Johnson roads intersection improvements.

The Rufe Snow Drive/Johnson Road intersection was one of six recognized in a 2012 study as a high priority in need of improvement. City Council selected improvements for the intersection improvements as part of the FY 2013 budget.

Cost for the engineering firm to provide services is $54,600. Funding is budgeted through roadway impact fee funds.

"Funding for the actual construction will be brought to council later in the year," said Greg Dickens, director of public works during a Feb. 19 pre-council meeting.

Dickens said the design and construction of the project will provide a safer and more efficient intersection for traffic and pedestrians.

City staff will be contacting nearby property owners and will schedule a public meeting in the near future to alert the public about the proposed project. Representatives from Lee Engineering L.L.C. also will attend the public meetings.
