The Keller Varsity Silver hockey team scored in the second and third periods of Thursday night's game against McKinney, but could not overcome a 4-0 deficit to get a victory.
McKinney took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission and scored again at the two-minute mark of the second period.Keller answered just over a minute later on a power play goal from Blake Ong to make it 4-1 McKinney.Chris Shutz and Barron Morris earned assists on the Ong goal.McKinney scored twice more in the second period to lead 6-1 heading in to the third period.Keller got off to a good start in the third, as Shutz scored just 43 seconds into the period on an assits from Morris, but could not get any more goals in the game.Mixson, Denton County defeat BirdvilleThe Denton County Varsity Silver hockey team defeated Birdville on Thursday night in a game that saw Cameron Mixson earn a hat trick.Birdville took a 1-0 lead in the first period, before Mixson answered with two goals of his own to give Denton County a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.Josh Weese, Max Comradi, and Luke Begis earned assists on the Mixson goals.Weese gave Denton County a 3-1 lead in the second period on assists from Comradi and Brad Duggan, but a Birdville goal made it a 3-2 game heading into the third.Mixson completed the hat trick on an assist from Duggan at the 2:28 mark of the the third period, followed by an empty net goal from Link Ferch.Comradi finished the game with three assists, and Ferch stopped 22 of 24 shots on goal in the contest.Nelson swim and dive team well represented at stateThe Byron Nelson swim and dive team was well represented at the state meet this past weekend, as 10 swimmers and two divers qualified for the competition.The 200 and 400 Free relays of Victoria Dahan, Eva Koster, Hannah Reckmeyer, Leexa Leon,and Quinn Taylor advanced to state, and the boys 200 and 400 Free Relays including Justin Frederick, Trevor Hutson, Adam Koster, Daniel Sampognaro, and Seth Winstead also qualified.Divers Stephen Gilliland and Nicole Worley both advanced to state in the one-meter event.KISD sends 11 wrestlers to stateThe Keller school district was out in force at last weekend's state wrestling meet, as 11 KISD wrestlers qualified for the competition.Central qualified Kareem Simms (120-pound division), Qu'Ron Simms (126), Dylan Tolliver (145), JD Welch (220), Issa Rodriguez (95), Myla Casey (148) and Bryanna Perkins (165).Fossil Ridge sent Dammion Heard (113), Bryan Baker (220), and Paige Garcia (215), and Phil Young (182) advanced for Keller High School.Northwest boys win Swenson MemorialThe Northwest boys golf team opened up the spring with a bang, winning the Thomas Swenson Memorial Scholarship Championship golf tournament on Feb. 18 at the Denton Country Club.The Swenson Memorial fielded a total of 13 teams.Aaron Guanlao was the low scorer for the Texans, shooting a 76, while teammate Cale Carr shot a 79 in the tournament.Brent Hopper shot an 82 for the tournament, Alec Johnson shot an 84, Drake McKinney shot 88 and the team score was 321.Have more to add?
