Mychal Ammans scored 18 points, leading four South Alabama players in double figures and the Jaguars defeated visiting North Texas 69-57 in Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball.

South Alabama was consistent in each half, outscoring the Mean Green (11-19, 6-13 Sun Belt) by six points each half.

The loss ended North Texas’ two-game winning streak.

Tony Mitchell had his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but North Texas was held to just 33 percent shooting and hit just one 3-pointer.

“Give them credit, it was Senior Night and they took care of business. Early on I thought we were stagnant offensively and we got behind and just couldn’t get a groove,” UNT coach Tony Benford said. “We just didn’t do a good job of keeping them off the boards either and didn’t make a run when we needed to tonight.”

South Alabama (16-10, 13-5) broke open a close game in the first half with a 10-2 run to take a 22-13 lead with 9:28 left. The lead was at 11 points for USA with two minutes left in the half when North Texas trimmed the advantage down to six points at the break at 30-24.

In the second half South Alabama opened an 11-point edge two minutes in, going on a 7-2 to make it 37-26.
