TCU golfers hold nine-shot lead in California meet

TCU shot a 288 on Saturday and is at 11-under 565 for a nine-shot lead over Texas Tech after the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.

Julien Brun shot a 71 and is at 5-under 139 and is tied with Jonathan De Los Reyes of St. Mary’s and Finley Ewing of Texas Tech for first place.

The Frogs’ Paul Barjon, Eli Cole and Pontus Gad are tied for fifth with a 142.

• Track and field: The women are in eighth place with nine points and the men are ninth with three points after first day of the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa.

UT Arlington

• Track and field: The UTA men’s indoor track and field team placed second and the women took fifth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Albuquerque.

The men scored 137 points to fall just 22 shy of the title. The women scored 92.5 points.

• Softball: The Mavericks dropped a pair of games at the Texas Shootout in Sam Marcos.
