FORT WORTH -- Police are trying to identify a man who was seen throwing a dog over a Trinity Boulevard bridge Thursday afternoon, killing it.

The incident happened about 3:40 p.m. in the 12600 block of Trinity Boulevard in northeast Fort Worth, east of North Collins Street and west of the Stone Creek subdivision.

A passer-by told officers that he was driving east on Trinity Boulevard when he saw a man walking a dog on the sidewalk on the south side of the road, according to Sgt. Kelly Peel, a police spokesman.

The witness called police after the man threw the dog over the bridge and walked away, Peel said.

Responding officers looked over the bridge and saw a brown dog lying in the creek, not moving. The dog, which had no collar, was later determined to be dead, Peel said. The breed was unknown.

The case is being investigated as animal cruelty, Peel said.
