Perry and women

Gloria Steinem's description of Gov. Rick Perry was completely accurate. Like all purely faith-driven conservatives, he reduces the subject of women's healthcare to its lowest common denominator: abortion. Nothing ever changes.

Women carry their share in the workforce, raise families and are extended equal rights in most cases. But when it comes to healthcare in Texas, the subject becomes distasteful to the Legislature.

Budgets were slashed and clinics closed for no other reason than abortion.

Believe it or not, preventive care, screenings and birth control are far more important to women than pregnancy terminations. Being treated with dignity is also way up there.

The birthrate in Texas is about to spike because of these Draconian cuts and will cost the taxpayers many millions. This is real money out of our pockets and Perry's budget.

Women make up the majority of the voting bloc and carried the last two elections. Does anyone remember that?
