FORT WORTH -- Police are trying to identify a man who was seen throwing a dog over a Trinity Boulevard bridge Thursday afternoon, killing it.

The incident happened about 3:40 p.m. Thursday in the 12600 block of Trinity Boulevard in northeast Fort Worth, east of North Collins Street and west of the Stone Creek subdivision.

A passerby told officers that he was driving east on Trinity Boulevard when he spotted a man walking a dog on the sidewalk on the south side of the roadway, according to Sgt. Kelly Peel, a police spokesman.

The witness told police that he then saw the man throw the dog over the bridge and walk away, prompting the witness to call police, Peel said.

Responding officers looked over the bridge to find a brown dog lying in the creek below, not moving. The dog, which had no collar, was later determined to be dead, Peel said.

The breed of dog is unknown.

The case is being investigated as cruelty to animals, Peel said.
