FORT WORTH _ Two children escaped serious injuries Wednesday morning when a white van crashed through their family's home and ended up in their bedroom, police said.

The children's grandfather pulled the kids _ ages 7 and 8 _ out of the debris, according to KDFW Fox 4.

After the children were pulled out, MedStar paramedics treated them at the scene, but no one was taken to a hospital, said MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky.

The 18-year-old driver of the van was arrested, police said.

The wreck occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 6700 block of Westcreek Drive.

The van left the roadway, smashing into the house taking out the front wall and then a second wall of the bedroom with the two children asleep in it, police said.

The van driver left the scene.

But he later walked up to the scene and claimed he had been driving the van, police said.

Initially, the teen told police that he was carjacked and lost control of van while the carjacker was in the vehicle with him at the time of the wreck.

The 18-year-old changed his story to say that the carjacking occurred a few blocks away, but that he was still so shaken by the experience that he lost control of his vehicle and hit the house, police said.

Police arrested the teen on suspicion of public intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident.
