GRAPEVINE -- For the seventh year in a row, Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine has received the trophy as the nation's top-selling Chevrolet dealer -- despite having to deal with one of the biggest road construction projects in the state.
"I never thought it would happen," owner Tom Durant said."It's been a tough year."Durant was referring to the massive DFW Connector project along Texas 114.Over the past year, and often on Saturdays, typically the biggest sales day, the freeway leading to Classic Chevrolet was shut down.On other days, motorists were asked to avoid the area, Durant said.Classic Chevrolet still sold 4,320 new cars and trucks in 2012, the most among more than 3,000 dealers. That brings its total retail sales in the past seven years to 32,746, the dealership said.Don Johnson, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet sales and service, said the accomplishment is "particularly impressive when you look at all of the construction you had to contend with last year. It's a testament to your focus on the customer."Durant said many of its sales went to repeat customers. And when road construction ends this year, he said, he expects a surge in new customers and sales."Every department and every person in this dealership made the difference," Durant said.Lone Star Chevrolet in Jersey Village, near Houston, finished second among Chevy dealers, with 4,074 cars.Sandra Baker, 817-390-7727Twitter: @SandraBakerFWSTHave more to add?
