A Grand Prairie motorist crashed into a group of vehicles stopped at a traffic light on an Irving street Monday night, killing one driver and seriously injuring another person, Irving police said Tuesday.
Irving police identified the victim as Luis Andrade, 39, of Grand Prairie. He died at a local hospital shortly after the wreck. His passenger, Imelda Corea, 23, was taken to a hospital where she was listed in serious condition Tuesday, police said.Authorities arrested Anthony Almanza, 39, on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault after he was released from a local hospital from injuries he suffered in the wreck.The wreck was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of the 1300 block of South Belt Line Road in Irving.Investigators say they believe Almanza was driving a 2004 Dodge pickup southbound on South Belt Line Road when he approached an intersection where several vehicles were stopped for a red light.Almanza failed to stop and rear-ended a 2001 Nissan which was pushed forward into the back of a 2000 Kia, police said.Andrade was the driver in the Nissan and Corea was his passenger, authorities said.The driver of the Kia was not injured.Officers say they believe that alcohol was a factor in the wreck.Police made a mandatory blood draw from Almanza, but results of that test were not available Tuesday.Domingo Ramirez Jr., 817-390-7763Twitter: @mingoramirezjrHave more to add?
