GRAPEVINE -- Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine once again has received the trophy as the nation's top-selling Chevrolet dealer -- for an unprecedented seventh straight year -- even though it's surrounded by one of the biggest road construction projects in the state.
"I never thought it would happen," said owner Tom Durant. "It's been a tough year."Durant, of course, is referring to the massive DFW Connector project underway along Texas 114. Over the past year, and many times on Saturdays, typically the biggest sales day, the freeway leading to Classic Chevrolet was shut down. On other days, motorists were asked to avoid the area, Durant said.Classic Chevrolet still managed to sell 4,320 new cars and trucks in 2012, the most among more than 3,000 Chevrolet dealers. That brings their total retail sales in the past seven years to 32,746, the dealership said.Don Johnson, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet sales and service, said the accomplishment was "particularly impressive when you look at all of the construction you had to contend with last year. It's a testament to your focus on the customer."Durant said many of its sales went to repeat customers. And when road construction ends this year, he said he expects a surge in new customers and sales."Every department and every person in this dealership made the difference," Durant said.Lone Star Chevrolet in Jersey Village, near Houston, finished second among Chevy dealers, 4,074 cars.Sandra Baker, (817) 390-7727Twitter: @SandraBakerFWSTHave more to add?
