The goal of this year's Engineers Week is to Celebrate the Awesome ways that today's engineering professionals contribute to society.

The National Engineers Week Foundation is a formal coalition of more than 100 professional societies, major corporations and government agencies. It is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of -- and interest in -- engineering and technology careers among young students as well as promoting pre-college literacy in math and science.

"This year, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, or NCEES, is excited to celebrate the awesome contributions engineers make to our world by co-chairing the 2013 Engineers Week, along with Lockheed Martin," said Dale Jans, P.E., co-chair, EWeek 2013.

Engineers Week also raises public understanding and appreciation of engineers' contributions. Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), it is among the oldest of America's professional outreach efforts.

As the Foundation's signature program, Engineers Week is a catalyst for outreach across the country to kids and adults alike. Engineers Week is part of many corporate and government cultures, and is celebrated on every U.S. engineering college campus.

Among the many activities scheduled nationwide are Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Thursday, Feb. 21) and the National Engineers Week Future City Competition. Also nominations for the 2013 Discover E Educator Awards continue through March 8.
