Kansas' Whithey, K-State's Rodriguez share Big 12 honors

Kansas State guard Angel Rodriguez and Kansas center Jeff Withey were named Big 12 players of the week today. Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart earned his fourth rookie of the week honor.

Rodriguez averaged 19.5 points, 8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3 steals as the Wildcats split two games. The sophomore shot 48.1 percent, including 42.9 percent from the 3-point arc. He collected his first double-double against Baylor with 22 points and 10 assists.

Whithey, a senior, paced the Jayhawks in two wins, averaging 16 points and 10.5 rebounds, while combining to block seven shots and three steals. He became the Big 12 career leader with 265 blocked shots.

Smart, who played at Flower Mound Marcus, averaged 19 points in two Cowboy wins. He shot 55 percent and had 10 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks in the two games.
