ARLINGTON -- UT Arlington started a season 3-0 for the first time since 2001 by beating Louisiana Tech 9-3 Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
J.M. Twichell finished a home run shy of the cycle and Jake Pinchback went 4 for 5 in the Mavericks' 13-hit attack.Twichell stroked a single, triple and double in his first three three-at-bats. The first baseman scored three runs and drove in a run.He had two at-bats to hit a home run for the cycle, but walked and was hit by a pitch.Also for the Mavericks, Travis Sibley had a hit and two runs scored, Matt Shortall went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Darien McLemore had two hits and an RBI and Greg McCall finished with two RBIs.Brad Vachon went five scoreless innings to earn the win in relief."This was a good weekend for us," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "Twichell is going to be a middle of the order guy for us and he had a great day today. More importantly, we scored in every inning except the seventh."UTA puts its 3-0 record up against Texas at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Austin.
