I read with interest Steve Williams' Jan. 23 letter about being an American and thought I should write and back up the master chief.

The Navy trusted me to help run a nuclear reactor on a submarine before I was old enough to purchase alcohol.

When I joined the National Rifle Association, Joe Foss was its president. Joe earned the Medal of Honor in the skies over Guadalcanal in 1942.

The NRA was founded by a group of Union officers, Civil War veterans.

The NRA is not a faceless entity that corrupts Congress.

It is a group of Americans who do not believe what is wrong with America is too much freedom.
