Yes, "state lawmakers have passed several measures to prevent wrongful convictions." But when will legislators pass laws to hold those responsible for the wrongful convictions accountable?
Case in point: the current court of inquiry of the former Williamson County district attorney, now a sitting judge, Ken Anderson. By all indications, he covered up or denied to defense attorneys evidence that would have acquitted Michael Morton.Morton served 25 years for the murder of his wife and was exonerated through DNA evidence in 2011. For 61/2 years, that DNA testing was denied by another person culpable in this debacle, former Williamson County DA and Anderson protege John Bradley. In court, Morton asked presiding Judge Louis Sturns to "be gentle with Ken Anderson."The untold numbers of others who might be wrongfully serving prison sentences as a result of Anderson's and Bradley's actions may not be so magnanimous. How about laws to send these "public servants" to prison?-- Melanie Lemley, ArlingtonHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
