MONROE, La. -- Freshman Loryn Goodwin's 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds to play gave the North Texas women a 76-75 Sun Belt Conference victory over Louisiana Monroe on Thursday night.
Goodwin finished with seven 3-pointers in 12 attempts. She scored a career-high 28 points as UNT (10-15, 9-7 Sun Belt) rallied for the victory."It was a great win for us here tonight, especially on the road," North Texas coach Mike Petersen said. "Loryn was great tonight, and we really needed her to step up."Freshman Alexis Hyder scored 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Mean Green.Hot-shooting Louisiana Monroe (7-17, 5-10) overcame an eight-point second-half deficit and led 75-71 with 33 seconds remaining.UNT's Sara Stanley hit a put-back layup with 10 seconds to play, and ULM missed its free-throw attempt on its next possession. Off the miss, Laura McCoy found Goodwin on a 30-foot outlet pass for the winner.Goodwin hit UNT's 135th 3-pointer on the year, which broke the school record set in 2001-02. She is four 3-pointers behind Jill Medlock's record for 3s in a season.
