Thanks to Mac Engel for the tribute to Chris and Taya Kyle, and recognizing heroism in the real world. (See: "Our sports heroes not in Kyle's league," Tuesday)

Chris had a "next year" in his life when he retired, then dedicated himself to help his teammates returning from war with injuries. His next year was suddenly lost when he attempted to help another hero returning from combat with mental injury -- another hero unfortunately not to be recognized as such.

There are many returning with physical as well as mental handicaps. We need to meet and greet them with the help they deserve. This is a special interest group we owe our way of life to for their sacrifice.
