On Feb. 5, in the final home games of the season, the Weatherford Christian School Lions and Lady Lions faced the Weatherford Express.

After a slow start, the Lady Lions grabbed the lead in the second quarter and held on to win, 47-38. Junior Megan Kiszka led the Lady Lions with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Lauren Aaron gave a solid performance with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Junior Ashleigh Garvin provided an additional spark with 9 points and 4 assists.

With a strong game by the Lady Lions, Coach Debby Steensma was pleased with her team’s performance.

“The girls played well as a team,” Steensma said. “We moved the ball well and we ran through our offense completely.”

The Lions, however, lost to Weatherford Express, 52-30. Ryan Ellisor led the team in scoring with 12 points and Abraham Hernandez gave a good effort with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Even with a loss, Coach Alan Weaver remained positive after the game.

“In the first quarter and second half, the boys kept it close,” he said. “They were able to attack the basket and move through our plays. Unfortunately, we had a rough second quarter we could not come back from.”

That night, six seniors were recognized before the game. Players honored included Chelsea Cook, James Williams, Jake Bomar, and Austin Fuller. The teams and fans also recognized stats keeper for the Lions, Angela Adhikari, and athletic trainer for both squads, Meggie Ellisor.
