Mayor Betsy Price confirmed on Tuesday that Dallas Stars president Jim Lites and members of his staff met six weeks ago to discuss the possibility of the hockey team playing in Fort Worth.

"We like the idea," she said. "There are a lot of hockey fans in Fort Worth."

The talks centered on the club hosting training camp in Fort Worth, but also included the possibility of games.

The city can produce ice for events at the Fort Worth Convention Center (11,200 seating) or the arena at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The Fort Worth Brahmas, a minor league hockey team, play some of their games in the convention center.

The Stars play at the American Airlines Center (18,532) in Dallas.

"They gave us a lot of ideas, but we have not seen a firm plan yet," she said.

The Stars are working with members of the city staff on the plan, she said.

"I think we just have to work with them on the cost and the dates," she said. "We're working closely with them to see if we can make it happen."

This season's training camp was scheduled for CenturyLink Arena in downtown Boise, Idaho, but it was canceled because of the NHL lockout. After the lockout ended, the Stars held a six-day training camp at Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco.

Dallas held its previous two training camps in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
