Big 12 baseball coaches picked TCU to finish second in the league, behind Oklahoma, which received six of nine first-place votes.

The Horned Frogs, who open their first season in the Big 12 on Friday with a weekend series at Ole Miss, received the other three first-place votes for 55 points, seven behind the Sooners. Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech were picked to finish third through sixth. Kansas State, Kansas and West Virginia round out the conference.

The Sooners have never won a Big 12 title and have won the league's postseason tournament once, in 1997, the league's first year. OU, TCU and Baylor reached the Super Regional round in 2012. Texas missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998 last year. The Bears won the Big 12 title after going 20-4 in the league and finished 49-17.

Nuutinen leads TCU

Sanna Nuutinen's third consecutive round of 73 helped the Frogs finish fourth in the team standings at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Nuutinen had three birdies in the final round and finished eighth in the individual standings with a 3-over-par 219. It was the fifth top-10 finish of her career.

TCU finished at 895, ahead of eight top-40 programs. The fourth-place result marked TCU's best finish in the 2012-13 campaign. With an 871, No. 6 Alabama won the team title by 13 strokes over No. 12 Arkansas.

Briefly

UT Arlington men's golf: The Mavericks finished tied for eighth at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational after final round. The Mavericks were plus-34 three-round total of 886 at the par-71 Oak Hills Country Club. Riley Fleming was UTA's top finisher, tying for 12th with a 4-over 213.

UT Arlington track and field: The Mavericks moved up six spots into the top 20 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) rankings. At No. 19, the team has achieved its highest ranking since the USTFCCCA started its system in the late 1990s. The only in-state teams ranked higher than UTA are Texas A&M (No. 4), Texas Tech (No. 6) and Texas (No. 9). The Mavericks have been ranked among the nation's top 25 four consecutive weeks.

Alabama football: Three football players have been charged with knocking students unconscious and stealing their wallets, while a fourth player has been charged with using a stolen debit card, officials said Tuesday. Linebacker Tyler Hayes, 18, and safety Eddie Williams, 20, confessed to robbing a student. Williams said D.J. Pettway, 20, a defensive lineman, and Hayes waited in a nearby vehicle about an hour later while he knocked out and robbed another student. Williams and running back Brent Calloway, 20, both admitted to using a stolen credit card to buy snacks from vending machines inside a dormitory. All four students were indefinitely suspended by coach Nick Saban.

North Carolina basketball: Coach Roy Williams said freshman Joel James won't play at second-ranked Duke tonight due to a concussion. Williams took a blow to the head at some point during last week's home win against Wake Forest.

Northwestern basketball: Forward Jared Swopshire will miss the remainder of the season after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Swopshire started all 24 games and averaged 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds.
