UT Arlington women's basketball coach Samantha Morrow has resigned, effective immediately, after learning that her contract would not be renewed, athletic director Jim Baker announced today.
Morrow has spent six seasons at the helm of the Mavericks. Her 2009 team earned a first-place division finish in conference play and made a WNIT appearance after playing in the championship game of the conference tournament. I informed Coach Morrow that I was not going to renew her contract at the end of the season, Baker said in a written statement. Upon hearing that decision, she decided to step aside so that transition could begin as soon as possible."Samantha has been a valuable member of the UT Arlington community during her time here," Baker added. "We thank her for her contributions to the womens basketball program and to the University. We wish her all the best."Baker also announced that assistant coach Karen Blair will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the year and that the search for a permanent replacement will begin following the season.Morrow came to UT Arlington after winning four consecutive Class 5A state championships at Mansfield High School from 1999 to 2002. She was named the 2002 National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association's National Coach of the Year and completed her high school coaching career with 413 wins in 14 seasons.Have more to add?
