The Colleyville Heritage boys basketball team is back on track with a three-game winning streak heading into their season finale on Tuesday night, and coach Stephen Hamrick said he believes his team is ready to make some noise in the postseason.

The Panthers will likely face Lewisville or Coppell in the opening round of the playoffs, and while Hamrick said both teams have very different styles of play, he does not really have a preference one way or the other in terms of who his team gets.

“We sent some coaches out last week to do some scouting on them, and to be honest, I have not watched any of the video yet,” Hamrick said. “I just have information on them. I know that they are different teams in terms of how they play.

“Lewisville has very good athleticism and pressure on the ball defensively. Coppell is very physical in the half court and execute well defensively as well. They have different dynamics they both bring, but right now, I don't have a preference.”

Colleyville defeated R.L. Turner 73-55 on Friday, and Hamrick said it was an important victory for his team.

“It was a good road win for us, which is important down the stretch,” Hamrick said. “You want to start playing your best basketball late in the year, and we put some possessions together that execution-wise really helped us to be successful in the game.”

Colten Gober had a phenomenal night for the Panthers, scoring 36 points in the contest, while Aaron Rhodes added 13 points for CHHS.

Derrick Donnell, Markey Young, Dominic Perez, Austin McOmber and Zachary Gay combined for 24 points in the game.

“We're excited about the opportunities that are ahead of us,” Hamrick said. “You can never take these things for granted. We got in, we're excited about that, and now that we are in, it is time to raise the level of our game and compete.”

Colleyville Heritage played its season finale on Tuesday against Bell after the print deadline.

Hamrick said that for his team to have a successful run in the playoffs, he needs for his players to focus on two big areas of their game.

“We've got to get better on the backboard,” Hamrick said. “That's one thing that's kind of been tough for us here lately. When we get people to miss, we need to do a better job of getting the basketball.

“The other thing is, we need continue to take care of the ball offensively. When you're not a great rebounding team, you want to make sure you make the most of your shots and get quality shots on the offensive side. If we can do those things, I think we are looking at a good run.”
