Taize’ Worship at Trinity Presbyterian

On February 13, at 7 PM we will observe Ash Wednesday with a very special and unique service patterned after the contemplative style of worship as practiced at the monastery of Taize’, France. People from all over the world come there to worship in a quiet place, read scripture, participate in prayers both silent and spoken and sing simple, repetitive songs meant to penetrate the soul and mind of the worshipper.

Ash Wednesday is a day of solemn assembly that is built right into the church year. It is a fast day, a day of mourning for our sin and the sin of all humanity before God, a recognition of our mortality save for the grace of God and a request that the Lord remember our creation and breathe new life into our burned-out, dusty lives once more.

The focus of the service will be the imposition of ashes. As the worshiper comes forward, the pastor will take a small amount of ash and apply the sign of the cross on the forehead. This symbol reminds us of the grace of God and the love of Christ.

All are welcome to join with us for this service of worship which ushers in the season of Lent culminating in Resurrection Sunday on March 31. Trinity Presbyterian Church is located at 1200 Clover Hill Drive at Walnut Creek Drive.

On Sunday, February 24th, the Drama ministry of Mansfield Bible Church will present Bridge of Blood, a reader’s theatre that tells the incredible true story of a missionary team including Jim Elliot that were all killed by the Aucas while on a mission to bring them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The deaths of these five men galvanized the missionary efforts and many of the Aucas were converted, including some who were involved in the killings. Come hear about Jim Elliot’s widow and the sister of one of the other missionaries demonstrating amazing forgiveness by being a part of the mission. This dramatic presentation will take place in the 9:30 am and 11:00 am worship services. MBC is located at 2351 Country Club Drive in Mansfield. To watch a live stream of the 11 am service, or to learn more about missions and other ministries of MBC, go to www.MBCchurch.com.
