Rumors of splendid Arizona weather have been greatly exaggerated one day ahead of the day Texas Rangers pitchers and catchers report for spring training at the Surprise Recreation Campus.

Temperatures aren't forecast to exit the 50s Monday and will barely creep into the 60s on Tuesday. It's cloudy, some rain was spit out this morning, and the winds, while not strong, aren't helping matters.

Even Mike Olt, the prized prospect from snow-sacked Connecticut, was complaining about how cold it is. Of course, he was wearing shorts as he headed out with the pitchers and a few other position players for a morning workout.

Most of the pitching staff appears to be here, and that includes Yu Darvish. His flowing orange locks from a year ago, though, won't be reporting. And the current count of Japanese media sits at zero, which is stunning compared to the throng last year. But Darvish's lack of accessibility had our friends from Japan predicting less coverage in Year Two.

The only notable pitcher who was missing Monday morning was Matt Harrison, but he is in town.

Manager Ron Washington is on site working out. He'll meet with the media around lunchtime.

Pitching coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Andy Hawkins and bench coach Jackie Moore are said to be flying in today.

They won't be pleased with the weather.
