Joe Paterno's family released its response to Penn State's report on the Jerry Sandusky scandal Sunday, attacking Louis Freeh's conclusion that the coach hid sex abuse allegations against his longtime assistant.

In a report commissioned by the family, former U.S. Attorney General and Pennsylvania Gov. Dick Thornburgh said the investigation by former FBI director Freeh resulted in a "rush to injustice." That report, authorized by the university, found that Paterno and three former administrators covered up child sexual abuse allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.

Those findings last July were unsupported by the facts, said the family critique released.

The family's report concluded that observations related to Paterno in the Freeh report were unfounded, and were a disservice to Paterno, and Sandusky's victims "and the critical mission of educating the public on the dangers of child sexual victimization."

TCU roundup

Women's golf: Kortnie Maxoutopoulis, making her TCU debut, shot an even-par 72 and is tied for second to lead the Horned Frogs into a tie for second in the team standings after the opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

Maxoutopoulis is a transfer from Rutgers, where she was an All-Big East selection as a freshman last year.

She is tied for second with Auburn's Carlie Yadloczky, just two strokes off the pace set by Emily Tubert of Arkansas.

At 5-over 293, the Frogs are tied for second with Alabama. Arkansas leads with a 291.

Alexandra Bonetti and Sanna Nuutinen carded 73s and are tied for fourth individually.

Men's tennis: TCU split a pair of matches in Tulsa. The Frogs (6-3) fell to Tulsa 4-1, then blanked Oral Roberts 5-0.

Texas tops UNT

Texas scored five runs in the second inning and topped North Texas 5-4 in the championship game of the Texas Classic softball tournament.
